Description

This image was taken in Chicago in April of 2004. I used a Bronica and Tri-X 400 film. I'm attracted to fire escapes something about the way the metal weaves together.

Lots of great photographers in that group... Check them out

To a Brit, this kind of shot typifies the kind of American persona associated with the likes of Kojak, Starsky & Hutch, Hill St Blues etc, regardless of whether they were filmed in Chicago...NY...or LA... :D

Fire escapes and steam...says it all.

However, on a more technical note...depending on what you wanted when you took the photo...the convergence is pretty strong, doesn't make it a poor pic though. I take a large amount of photos of buildings for part of my job and aon anything over three storeys in relatively close proximity the convergence will be quite harsh regardless of lens. I take a large part of the distortion out afterwards with a little tinkering in either PS or PSP, both enable buildings to be 'straightened'....However, depends what you were after in the first place.

What I would have done, however, is either included or completely removed the fire escape ladder? running across the bottom of the pic. I'd have pumped up the res a little too. B&W pics really benefit from crisp presentation.

If you check out my site, you'll find little by way of architecture photography, purely because it doesn't captivate me as much as it did once...bit of a busman's holiday...doesn't mean I don't appreciate other people's work though.

Glad I dropped in =)
